Projects - Views an Filters

Last updated: February 26, 2026

Project views and filters help you visualize and narrow down your project data in Bridgit. You can switch between List and Gantt views to see your projects in different formats, then apply filters to focus on specific statuses, phases, roles, or any other criteria relevant to your planning.

Key capabilities:

  • Switch between List and Gantt views to match your workflow

  • Customize columns to show the data you need

  • Filter on projects, phases, and roles

  • Save frequently used filters for quick access

  • Apply Gantt-specific display options and role filtering

  • Drag and drop bars to adjust dates with Agile Planning

  • Export filtered data to CSV or PDF

Eligibility/Prerequisites

Access to Project views and filters depends on your permission level:

  • View Projects: See project data in both List and Gantt views

  • Edit Projects: Customize views, apply filters, and drag project/phase bars

  • Manage Roles: Drag and drop role bars, apply role-specific filters

  • Edit Projects + Manage Roles: Drag and drop precon task bars and roles under those tasks

Your ability to see certain data may be restricted based on profile type permissions. If you only have permission to view salaried or hourly profiles, role filtering will reflect only that profile type.

How to Use

Project List View

The List view displays your projects in a table format with customizable columns.

Customizing Columns

  1. Click View Columns in the top right beside the search bar

  2. Select the columns you want to display

  3. Drag column headers to reorder them

  4. Your column selections remain sticky as you navigate Bridgit

Applying Filters

Important: The Project List automatically filters out Complete, Lost, and Canceled projects. To view these projects, modify the Status filter to include them.

You have three ways to filter projects:

Add Filter button: Click Add Filter on the left to access all available fields, including project fields, phases, and roles.

Quick filters: Some accounts have quick filter dropdowns for commonly used fields (check your secondary navigation bar).

Column-based filtering: Click the triangle icon on any column header to filter directly on that field.

Filtering by Roles

The Roles filter provides powerful options for finding staffing gaps:

  1. Click Add Filter and select Roles

  2. Choose your filter criteria:

    • Unfilled Roles or Filled Roles: Focus on assignment status

    • Specific role names: Filter to particular positions (Project Manager, Superintendent, etc.)

    • Timeframe: Set date range to see roles active during a specific period

    • Hire tag: Find roles marked for external hiring

Filtering by Active Phase

If your account uses phases, filter projects by which phase is currently active:

  1. Click Add Filter

  2. Select Active Phase

  3. Choose the phase you want to focus on

Saving Filters

Save frequently used filters for quick access:

  1. Apply your desired filters

  2. Click Save Filter on the left

  3. Name your filter descriptively

  4. Access saved filters anytime from the Add Filter dropdown

Exporting Data

Export your current view (including applied filters) to CSV or PDF using the export button in the top right.

Project Gantt View

The Gantt view provides a visual timeline of project schedules and staffing.

Understanding the Display

The Project Gantt shows three types of bars:

Project bar (top of each project row): Shows the overall project timeline.

  • Solid bars: Awarded projects

  • Faded bars with dotted outline: Pursuit projects

  • Colors may vary based on your account's project color configuration

Allocation bars (below project bar): Show individual roles on the project. Each bar represents one role assignment.

  • Blue bars: Unfilled roles

  • Grey bars: Roles assigned to a person

  • Bar length corresponds to role dates (may differ from overall project dates)

Phase bars (if phases are enabled): Show project phases when "View phases" is enabled in Gantt Settings.

Precon task bars (if Precon module is enabled): Show precon tasks and their associated roles.

Gantt Display Options

Access Gantt Settings on the right side (click the gear icon) to customize what you see:

Display options:

  • View precon roles & tasks: Toggle precon information on/off (if Precon module is enabled)

  • View operations roles: Toggle operations roles on/off (if Precon module is enabled)

  • View phases: Expand phases into separate bars

  • View tags: Display project tags

Sort roles by:

  • Name: Alphabetical order

  • Start Date: Chronological order

Filter Roles

Role Status:

  • Upcoming: Roles starting in the future

  • Current: Roles active now

  • Past: Roles that have ended

Assignment Status:

  • Unfilled Roles: Show only roles without assignments

  • Filled Roles: Show only roles with people assigned

Select specific roles: Filter to particular role names to streamline your view. This filters roles within projects without removing projects from the Gantt.

Note: Role filtering in Gantt Settings filters which roles display within each project. It does not remove projects from view. To filter projects themselves, use the standard Add Filter options in the left sidebar.

Applying Filters in Gantt

All standard filters work in Gantt view:

  • Click Add Filter to filter projects, phases, or roles

  • Apply column-based filters

  • Use the Gantt Settings panel for role-specific filtering

  • Your filters persist when switching between List and Gantt views

Interacting with the Gantt

The Gantt is dynamic and interactive:

  • Scroll horizontally across the timeline

  • Click project bars to open project profiles

  • Click allocation bars to view role details or fill unfilled roles

  • Hover over project names to reveal the add role button

  • Drag and drop bars to adjust dates (see Agile Planning for details)

  • Adjust the timeline view using toolbar options (2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years)

  • Resize the legend by dragging its edge to accommodate long project names

Adding Roles from Gantt View

  1. Hover over a project name

  2. Click the + button that appears

  3. Configure the role details in the modal

  4. Save to add the role to the project

Filling Roles from Gantt View

  1. Click an unfilled role bar (blue bar)

  2. Review smart suggestions on the left

  3. Adjust filters on the right to refine suggestions

  4. Select a person to assign

  5. Choose Save or Save & Alert

Common Workflows

Finding projects with unfilled roles: In Gantt view, open Gantt Settings and filter Assignment Status to "Unfilled Roles". Review the blue bars to identify gaps. Click bars to fill roles directly.

Reviewing pursuit project timelines: Filter Status to "Pursuit" in the main filters. Use Gantt view to visualize schedules and identify potential conflicts with awarded work.

Identifying hiring needs: Apply the Roles filter with hire tag selected. Switch to List view for a detailed table you can export and share with recruitment.

Planning phase-based staffing: Enable "View phases" in Gantt Settings. Filter by Active Phase to focus on projects in a specific phase. Review role assignments within that phase.

Comparing awarded vs pursuit workload: Toggle the Status filter between "Awarded" and "Pursuit" to understand your current commitments versus potential future work. Use Gantt view to visualize timeline overlaps.

Adjusting project schedules quickly: Use Gantt view and drag project bars to new dates. Review the confirmation modal to understand impacts on phases and roles before finalizing changes.

Finding all projects needing a specific role: Filter Roles by the role name and "Unfilled" status. Review which projects need that position and prioritize filling them.

Reviewing projects in a specific location: Apply project filters for location or region (if configured in your account). Use Gantt or List view depending on whether you need timeline or detailed data.

Common Questions

Q: Why don't I see some of my projects in the list?

The Project List automatically filters out Complete, Lost, and Canceled projects by default. Click Add Filter, select Status, and include these statuses to view them.

Q: Can I filter on roles across all projects?

Yes. Use the Roles filter in the main Add Filter menu to find roles across your entire project portfolio. You can filter by role name, filled/unfilled status, timeframe, and hire tag.

Q: What's the difference between filtering roles in the main filters vs Gantt Settings?

Main filters (Add Filter > Roles) filter which projects appear based on role criteria. Gantt Settings role filters control which roles display within each project without removing projects from view.

Q: How do I see only projects in a specific phase?

Use the Active Phase filter in the main Add Filter menu. This will show only projects where the selected phase is currently active.

Q: Can I save a Gantt view with specific display settings?

Gantt Settings selections (display options, sort order, role filters) are saved to your browser's local storage and will persist when you return to the Project Gantt.

Q: Why are some project bars solid and others faded?

Solid bars indicate awarded projects. Faded bars with dotted outlines indicate pursuit (opportunity) projects.

Q: Can I change project dates by dragging bars in the Gantt?

Yes, if you have appropriate permissions. Drag project, phase, precon task, or role bars to adjust dates. See the Agile Planning article for detailed guidance on this feature.

Q: What happens when I collapse past assignments in Gantt Settings?

Collapsing past assignments hides roles that have already ended, creating a denser view focused on current and upcoming work. This setting is saved to local storage.
