Managing Groups

Last updated: February 26, 2026

Groups allow teams to organize people and projects by office, region, division, or any other meaningful categorization for your organization. Groups are a system-level property that can be assigned to both people and projects, enabling you to filter and view data relevant to specific segments of your workforce.

When the Groups module is enabled, a global filter appears throughout Bridgit, allowing users to focus on data from their relevant groups without constantly reapplying filters. Groups also automatically filter smart suggestions when placing people on roles, showing only candidates from matching groups.

Key capabilities:

  • Organize people and projects by office, region, or division

  • Apply a persistent global filter across all pages in Bridgit

  • Automatically filter candidate suggestions when placing people on roles

  • Assign multiple groups to people and projects for flexible organization

  • Manage groups centrally in Settings

Eligibility/Prerequisites

Module requirement: Your account must have the Account Groups module enabled. Contact your Customer Success Manager if you need this module activated.

Permissions required:

  • Administrator: Create, edit, and delete groups in Settings

  • Manage People Assign groups to people

  • Manage Projects: Assign groups to projects

  • All users: View and use the global filter (when module is enabled)

How to Use

Creating and Managing Your Groups List

  1. Click the settings icon in the top right

  2. Navigate to Account > Groups in the left sidebar

  3. Enter the group name (e.g., "Los Angeles," "Pacific Northwest," "Commercial Division")

  4. To delete existing groups, click the X next to the group

  5. To edit existing groups, click on the specific group, edit, and click enter

Assigning Groups to People

From a person's profile:

  1. Open the person's profile

  2. Navigate to the Details tab

  3. Locate the Group field

  4. Select one or multiple groups from the dropdown

  5. Save your changes

Note: The Group field is not mandatory—people can exist without an assigned group.

Assigning Groups to Projects

From a project profile:

  1. Open the project profile

  2. Navigate to the Details tab

  3. Locate the Group field

  4. Select one or multiple groups from the dropdown

  5. Save your changes

Note: The Group field is not mandatory—projects can exist without an assigned group.

Using the Global Filter

Once groups are set up, all users will see a Group filter in the top navigation across every page in Bridgit (except Settings).

To apply the global filter:

  1. Click the Group dropdown in the top navigation

  2. Select one or multiple groups you want to view

  3. Click Apply

The global filter:

  • Applies to all people and project data across every page

  • Persists as you navigate throughout Bridgit

  • Remains active even after you log out and return

  • Works independently from project and people filters

  • Updates all dashboard metrics and charts automatically

Filtering by Group in Smart Suggestions

When placing people on roles, the Smart Suggestions modal automatically filters candidates by the project's group assignment.

How it works:

  1. Open Smart Suggestions for any unfilled role

  2. The Group filter automatically applies, showing only people from the same group(s) as the project

  3. You can manually adjust the group filter if needed via the filters section

  4. Use the quick filter options to refine your search further

Understanding Groups and Saved Filters

The global Group filter exists separately from People and Project filters. Key points:

  • Saved filters cannot include the global Group filter

  • When you apply a saved filter, the global Group filter still applies

  • Changing the global filter while a saved filter is active will update the results to reflect the new group selection

Example: If your global filter is set to "Seattle" and you apply a saved filter for "Available Superintendents", you'll see available superintendents in Seattle only.

Common Workflows

Setting up groups for a multi-office organization: Create a group for each office location, assign all people and projects to their respective offices, then enable users to filter by their relevant office using the global filter.

Organizing by division or business unit: Create groups for different business lines (Commercial, Residential, Infrastructure), assign projects and people accordingly, then use the global filter to analyze each division separately.

Focusing on regional workforce planning: Set the global filter to your region at the start of each day, then navigate through People, Projects, and Dashboard views knowing all data reflects only your region.

Assigning people from the right location: When filling a role, let the automatic group filtering in Smart Suggestions show you candidates from the project's location first, reducing the need to manually filter by office or region.

Managing multiple groups per person or project: Assign multiple groups to people who work across offices or projects that span regions, making them visible when filtering for any of their assigned groups.

Common Questions

Q: Can I assign multiple groups to one person or project?

Yes. Both people and projects can belong to multiple groups. This is useful for people who work across offices or projects that span multiple regions.

Q: What happens if I don't assign a group to someone or something?

The Group field is optional. People and projects without assigned groups will appear when no global filter is applied, but will be filtered out when any group filter is active.

Q: Can I use groups in saved filters?

No. The global Group filter works independently from saved filters and cannot be included when creating a saved filter. However, the global filter still applies when you use a saved filter.

Q: Will the global filter remember my selection when I log back in?

Yes. Your global Group filter selection persists across sessions, so you'll see the same filtered view when you return to Bridgit.

Q: How does the global filter interact with other filters I apply?

The global filter works alongside People and Project filters. When both are active, results must match both the global Group filter and any additional filters you've applied.

Q: Can I see groups on mobile?

Yes. Groups are visible and manageable on the Bridgit mobile app.
