Smart Suggestions
Last updated: February 26, 2026
Smart Suggestions is Bridgit's intelligent recommendation system that helps you identify the best candidates to fill roles on your projects. When you're looking for someone to fill a role, Smart Suggestions analyzes your workforce data and ranks people based on their suitability for the position, considering factors like availability, experience, location, and collaboration history.
Eligibility/Prerequisites
Smart Suggestions is available to all Bridgit users when placing people in roles. The quality of suggestions improves as you maintain up-to-date information in Bridgit, including:
Current project assignments and availability
Project addresses and people locations (for commute distance calculations)
Experience tracking enabled (optional, but enhances recommendations)
Suggestion Summaries (AI-generated explanations) are available to most customers.
How to Use
Accessing Smart Suggestions
Smart Suggestions appears automatically when you fill a role from any location in Bridgit.
Understanding Suggestions
People are ranked from best to worst fit based on multiple factors, including availability, commute distance, and related experience.
Availability indicators:
Green circle: Person has the availability required to fill the role.
Orange circle: Assigning this person will create an over-allocation (above 100% utilization)
Availability bar: Shows the person's existing allocations during the role's timeframe. Click on striped sections to see details of overlapping assignments.
Suggestion Summaries:
AI-generated summaries are available for the top candidates.
Modifying Suggestions
You can adjust the search criteria on the right side of the panel:
Remove automatic filters: Such as group restrictions
Add specific filters: Based on title, certifications, or other attributes
Search directly: Enter a person's name if you know who you're looking for
Filling a Role
Once you've selected a candidate to fill a role:
Click on the person
Review their profile information, availability, and any conflicts
Choose to Save the assignment or Save & Alert to notify the person
Important: Bridgit will not prevent you from over-allocating someone—it will flag the conflict but allow you to proceed if necessary.
Common Workflows
Filling a role with the top suggestion: Open the placement panel, review the AI summary for the top candidate to understand why they're recommended, and assign them to the role if appropriate.
Comparing multiple candidates: Read through the summaries for the top five suggestions to see how different people stack up in terms of availability, location, and experience before making a decision.
Searching for a specific person: If you know exactly who you want to assign to a role, you can use the search function.
Adjusting for proximity: When location matters, pay attention to commute distance mentions in the summaries and consider candidates with shorter commutes to reduce travel time and costs.
Common Questions
Q: Why isn't someone I expected to see showing up in the suggestions?
They may be filtered out by automatic title or group filters. Try adjusting filters on the right side of the panel or searching for them directly by name.
Q: Can I trust the AI summaries?
The summaries are based on actual data in your Bridgit account—availability, location, experience, and collaboration history. They provide helpful context, but you should still review the person's full profile and use your judgment when making assignments.
Q: What if the top suggestion has an orange circle?
An orange circle indicates the person would be over-allocated if assigned to this role. Review their availability bar to see the extent of the conflict, then decide whether to proceed, adjust their other assignments, or choose a different candidate.
Q: How does Bridgit calculate commute distance?
Commute distance is calculated between the person's location (from their profile) and the project address. Distances under 10 miles are considered short, and distances over 40 miles are considered long.
Q: Can I see suggestions for roles that are already filled?
No, Smart Suggestions only appears when placing a person in an unfilled role or when replacing someone in an existing assignment.
Q: Why don't I see AI summaries for all candidates?
Suggestion Summaries currently appear only for the top five ranked candidates. Lower-ranked candidates don't include the AI-generated explanations, though you can still view their profiles and availability.
