Crew Management

Last updated: May 29, 2026

Crews is a feature for organizing groups of people who work together on a project. A crew represents a team responsible for a specific scope of work — with a defined composition and often a reporting hierarchy. In Bridgit, crews can be used in two ways: to group people for fast bulk assignment across projects, and to organize roles on a project into labeled crews for clear team visibility.

Key capabilities:

  • Group people into named crews for bulk assignment to projects

  • Assign an entire crew to a project in a single action

  • Organize roles on a project into crews to reflect team structure

  • View crew tags on roles to understand team composition at a glance

Eligibility/Prerequisites

Crews is available to accounts with the Crews module enabled. Contact your support to enable it.

Within those accounts, access depends on your permission level:

  • Manage People + Manage Assignments: Create and assign people-based crews for bulk project assignment

  • Manage Roles: Organize roles on a project into crews

How to Use

Creating a People Crew

  1. Navigate to People in the main navigation

  2. Select the people you want to group into a crew

  3. Click Add to Crew and either assign them to an existing crew or create a new one

  2. Locate the role you want to label

  3. Click the Add to Crew cell on the role

  4. Select an existing crew already on the project, or create a new one

  5. Save — the crew tag will appear on the role

Common Questions

Q: Can a person be in more than one crew?

Yes. A person can be a member of multiple saved crews, which is useful if someone works across different trade groups or project types.

Q: What's the difference between a people crew and a role crew?

A people crew is a saved group of individuals you can bulk-assign to projects. A role crew is a label applied to roles on a specific project to show how the team is organized on that job. Both can be used together or independently depending on your workflow.

Q: Does assigning a crew to a project override existing role assignments?

No. Crew assignment places people into unfilled roles. If a role is already filled, you will need to manage that assignment separately.

Q: Can I edit or rename a crew after it's been created?

Yes. Crew names and membership can be updated at any time. Changes to a saved crew will not retroactively update past project assignments.

Q: Will crew tags show up in reports or exports?

Crew tags are visible on roles within the project profile. Check with your Customer Success Manager for current export support.

Best Practices

  • Name crews clearly — include trade, region, or lead name to make them easy to identify (e.g., "Electrical - Team A" or "Framing Crew - Martinez")

  • Keep saved people crews up to date so bulk assignments reflect your actual team composition

  • Use role-level crew tagging even on one-off projects to make team structure visible to all users with project access

  • Review crew composition before bulk-assigning to a new project to confirm availability and avoid over-allocation
