Forecasting

Last updated: February 27, 2026

Forecasting provides a forward-looking view of your workforce capacity by comparing your people supply against project demand. It helps you identify surpluses, shortages, and utilization trends so you can make proactive decisions about hiring, bidding, and resource allocation. In addition, Scenario Planning lets you model the impact of pursuit projects on your workforce before they are awarded.

Key capabilities:

  • Compare workforce supply against project demand over time

  • Identify workforce shortages and surpluses by title and role

  • View utilization rate trends across your team

  • Model pursuit project scenarios to assess staffing feasibility

  • Break down the workforce gap by title and role for targeted planning

  • Track resource sharing between groups

  • Export supply & demand data for offline analysis

Full Filtering: Enhanced filtering capabilities will be added to the Supply & Demand page

Saved Supply & Demand Views: Save your most-used filter combinations as custom views to reduce setup time and quickly access the Supply & Demand data you need most often.

Eligibility/Prerequisites

Profile type: Users can view Supply & Demand data for their salaried team or hourly team, but not both together. The utilization rate view is available for salaried profiles only.

Data quality: The workforce gap breakdown by title/role works best when your account has matching title and role names. If titles and roles do not match, unmatched entries appear in an "Other" category. Check with your administrator about aligning titles and roles in Settings.

How to Use

Accessing Supply & Demand

Navigate to Reports in the main navigation, then select the Forecasting tab in the secondary navigation.

Understanding the Report Views

The Supply & Demand report offers three visual modes, each accessible via tabs above the graph:

Supply & Demand

displays your active workforce (supply) alongside project demand. Demand is broken down by role status: filled roles, unfilled roles, and roles tagged for hire. The supply line represents the number of people you are currently tracking in Bridgit.

Workforce Gap

shows the difference between your supply and demand over time. A negative value indicates more demand than available workforce, signalling a need to hire. A positive value indicates surplus capacity.

You can expand the workforce gap to see a breakdown by title and role, helping you pinpoint exactly where shortages or surpluses exist. To see the breakdown by title/role, they must match perfectly.

Utilization Rate

Displays the average utilization of your workforce over time. This calculation includes utilization above 100% for over-allocated people, which means totals can exceed 100%. The report also surfaces granular availability data, showing people with allocation issues, people with some availability, and people with full availability.

Reading the Table

Below the graph, a data table provides monthly or weekly details for all Supply & Demand metrics. The table includes rows for shortage or surplus, workforce supply, total people, utilization rate, project demand, total project demand, and resource sharing. Each row can be expanded for more granular data.

Adjusting Filters and Timeframe

Use the filter controls above the graph to narrow your view:

  • Role & Profile Type: Filter by salaried or hourly profiles

  • Title: Focus on specific people titles

  • Role: Focus on specific project roles

  • Timeframe: Toggle between 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 4-year, and 5-year views

  • Interval: Switch between monthly and other interval options

  • Group: Filter by group using the global group filter (if groups are enabled)

Using Scenario Planning

Scenario Planning lets you model the workforce impact of pursuit projects before they are awarded.

  1. Click the Plan a scenario button in the top-right corner

  2. The scenario planning panel opens, listing all pursuit projects

  3. Select or deselect pursuit projects to build your scenario

  4. Click Apply to update the graph and table with the selected scenario

When a scenario is applied, the report shows the combined impact of awarded projects and your selected pursuit projects. This helps you determine whether your workforce can support new bids if they are won.

Note: Precon assignments are included in demand calculations regardless of whether a scenario is applied.

Common Workflows

Assessing capacity before bidding on new work: Open the Supply & Demand page and review the Workforce Gap view. If the gap is positive (surplus), your team likely has capacity. Apply a scenario with the pursuit project to confirm that winning it would not create a shortage.

Identifying hiring needs by role: Switch to the Workforce Gap view and expand the breakdown by title/role. Look for specific roles showing consistent negative values over the coming months. Use this data to prioritize recruitment for the most in-demand positions.

Evaluating team utilization trends: Switch to the Utilization Rate view to see how busy your team is over time. If utilization is consistently high, your team may be at risk of burnout. If it is low, you may need to pursue additional work.

Comparing scenarios for multiple pursuits: Use Scenario Planning to test different combinations of pursuit projects. Apply one set, review the impact, then adjust your selections to compare alternatives and determine which bids your workforce can realistically support.

Understanding resource sharing across groups: Review the Resource Sharing rows in the data table to see how many people are assigned to other groups and how many are borrowed from other groups. This helps you understand cross-group dependencies.

Common Questions

Q: Why don't I see utilization rate data?

Utilization rate is only available for salaried profiles. If you are viewing Supply & Demand for your hourly team, the utilization rate view will not appear.

Q: What does a negative shortage/surplus value mean?

A negative number means project demand exceeds your workforce supply for that period. This indicates you may need to hire, reduce project commitments, or reallocate resources.

Q: Why do some titles/roles show up in an "Other" category in the workforce breakdown?

The breakdown matches people titles to project roles by name. If a title and role do not have the same name, they cannot be matched and are grouped under "Other." You can resolve this by aligning your title and role names in Settings.

Q: Can I view salaried and hourly Supply & Demand data together?

No. The Supply & Demand report displays data for one profile type at a time. Use the profile type filter to switch between salaried and hourly views.

Q: Does Scenario Planning affect other users?

No. Scenarios are applied only to your current view and do not change data for other users.

Q: Are precon roles included in the demand calculations?

Yes. Precon assignments are included in demand regardless of whether a scenario is applied.
