Agile Planning
Last updated: February 26, 2026
Agile Planning allows you to make quick date changes directly in the Project Gantt by dragging and dropping timeline bars. Instead of opening modals and navigating date pickers, you can visually adjust schedules for projects, phases, precon tasks, and roles with immediate updates.
Key capabilities:
Drag and drop gantt bars to change dates
Shift entire projects, phases, or individual roles
Faster workflow for managing project timelines
Eligibility/Prerequisites
Permissions required:
Edit Projects: Drag and drop project and phase bars
Edit Projects + Manage Roles: Drag and drop precon task bars and roles under those tasks
Manage Roles: Drag and drop role bars
How to Use
Making Date Changes
Navigate to your Project Gantt
Locate the bar you want to adjust (project, phase, precon task, or role)
Click and hold the bar (to shift) or the beginning/end of the bar (to edit)
Drag it to the new date position
Release to apply the change
Understanding Bar Behaviors
Projects and Phases
When you extend or collapse project dates, a confirmation modal appears if phases, tasks, or roles exist on the project
This lets you confirm impacts to related items before finalizing the change
Dragging phase dates does not automatically impact roles on the project
Precon Tasks
When you drag a precon task, all roles underneath update automatically
The task and its roles move together to maintain alignment
Roles
When you drag a role under a precon task, the task updates automatically along with any other roles under that task
If you attempt to drag an assignment segment within a role, the entire role shifts instead (segments cannot be edited individually via drag and drop)
Common Workflows
Pushing back a project start date: Drag the project bar to the new start date. Review the confirmation modal to decide how phases and roles will be affected, then confirm.
Adjusting a single role assignment: Drag the specific role bar to align with the updated schedule. The precon task (if applicable) adjusts automatically.
Extending a phase: Drag the phase bar to the new end date. Individual roles under the phase remain in their current positions unless manually adjusted.
Coordinating precon task timing: Drag the precon task bar to shift all associated roles at once, keeping the team aligned.
Common Questions
Q: Can I undo a drag and drop change?
No, there is no undo button for drag and drop actions. Changes are applied immediately, so use caution when adjusting bars.
Q: What happens if I drag a project that has many phases and roles?
You'll see a confirmation modal showing the impacts to phases, tasks, and roles before the change is finalized. This helps you avoid unintended schedule shifts.
Q: Can I drag individual assignment segments within a role?
No, assignment segments cannot be edited via drag and drop. If you attempt to drag a segment, the entire role will move instead.
Q: Why don't phase changes affect my roles automatically?
Dragging phase dates provides flexibility to adjust high-level timelines without forcing changes to individual role assignments. You can adjust roles separately as needed.
Q: What if I don't see the drag and drop option?
Check your permissions. You need Edit Projects, Manage Roles, or both depending on what you're trying to adjust.
