Communication
Last updated: February 26, 2026
Keep your team informed about assignments & project updates via Bridgit's Communication features like Alerts and Broadcasts.
Alerts notify specific individuals about assignments, including where and when someone is joining a project. Use alerts when assigning people to projects or updating these assignments.
Broadcasts send messages to any team members across projects simultaneously. Use broadcasts for general announcements, safety updates, or schedule changes affecting multiple people.
Both methods support email and SMS delivery.
Eligibility/Prerequisites
Permissions required:
Manage Roles permission to send alerts
View Projects permission to send broadcasts
Admin access to configure SMS settings
SMS requirements:
Users must have phone numbers in their profiles
SMS opt-in must be configured in Account Settings
Managing SMS Opt-In
Before sending SMS alerts, configure your SMS settings:
Navigate to Account Settings > SMS Opt-in Status
Choose your opt-in mode:
Your Organization Manages Opt-in (Default): Automatically opts in all employees with phone numbers. Use this if you've already collected SMS consent through your own processes.
Manage SMS Opt-in through Bridgit: Each employee must reply "YES" to a confirmation text before receiving alerts. Use this for explicit consent tracking.
Note: Email alerts can be sent to anyone. SMS alerts can only be delivered to employees who have opted in.

Start typing a name or email address
Select from the suggested Bridgit users or enter an external email
Add as many recipients as needed
Send the alert
Important:
When sending bulk alerts with additional recipients, each recipient receives individual messages. For example, assigning two workers to a project with two foremen as additional recipients means each foreman receives two separate alerts (one for each worker assignment).
Email recipients are CC'd and can see each other's contact information.
SMS messages are sent individually.
To notify only managers:
Open the alert modal
Remove the assignee from recipients
Add the manager as the sole recipient

Common Workflows
Notifying a foreman about new team members: Select assignments for multiple workers, send a bulk alert, and add the foreman as an additional recipient. The foreman receives individual alerts for each assignment.
Manager-only notification: Open the alert modal, remove the assignee, and add the manager as the sole recipient. This keeps workers unaware of preliminary planning.
Last-minute schedule changes: Update the assignment dates, then send an SMS alert to all stakeholders (assignee, manager, foreman, safety coordinator) for instant notification across your team.
Enabling SMS for your entire team: Navigate to Account Settings > SMS Opt-in Status, disable the "Bridgit Manages Opt-in" toggle, and all employees with phone numbers are automatically opted in.
Daily assignment reminders: Schedule alerts the evening before shifts to give workers time to prepare. Set alerts to send at 6:00 PM with next-day assignment details.
Common Questions
Q: What's the difference between an Alert and a Broadcast?
Alerts are tied to specific assignments and include assignment details (dates, times, project name). Broadcasts are general messages sent to multiple people without assignment-specific information.
Q: Why can't I add external emails to SMS alerts?
SMS only goes to Bridgit profiles who have opted in to receive text messages. Use email for external recipients who aren't in your Bridgit account.
Q: Will recipients see each other's contact info?
Email recipients are CC'd and can see each other's email addresses. SMS messages are sent individually, so recipients cannot see who else received the message.
Q: How do I check SMS opt-in status?
Navigate to Account Settings > SMS Opt-in Status to see which employees have opted in to receive SMS alerts.
Q: What details are included in alerts?
Alerts include the assignee name, project name, assignment dates and times, role information, and any custom message you add.
Q: What if someone accidentally opts out of SMS alerts?
They can opt back in by replying "START" to the original opt-in message. If the original message is no longer available, have them text "START" to +1 (226) 455-0291.
Q: Do scheduled alerts account for time zones?
Scheduled alerts use your account's default time zone setting. Verify the time zone in Account Settings to ensure alerts send at the intended time.
